Sustainable agriculture is more than just a trend; it is a necessity for our planet's future. Transfarmation is paving the way for a greener, more sustainable approach to farming. Transfarmation involves integrating innovative techniques and farming methods to bring about plant-based futures. The goal is to enhance productivity while minimizing the negative environmental and ethical impacts of traditional agricultural practices.
The Vision Behind Transfarmation
Transfarmation was born out of a vision to create a sustainable agricultural system that benefits both farmers and the environment. Sarah Heiligtag founded Transfarmation Switzerland. Her farm (Hof Narr) was converted into an organic vegetable farm and sanctuary. Since 2017, Sarah has also worked as a consultant helping other farmers transition away from animal production. To date they have helped over 130 farms transfarm!
Transfarmation Switzerland have been leaders in defining transfarmation and making it a movement that inspires an alternative vision for the planet that is built on respect and sustainability. Transfarmation is part of an agricultural revolution that is rethinking how we interact with food, nature, and animals.
Transfarmation is a movement that has gained considerable traction in the German speaking world and in the United States. For example, Mercy for Animals has also launched a Transfarmation branch to their work. They too offer consultations to farmers and have helped to develop resources for farmers to transition toward plant-based agriculture,

Transfarmation Austria hopes to be part of that change conducting research into the tenets of transfarmation and offering educational opportunities to understand the movement. We work together with scholars and advocates that are focused understanding transfarmation as a movement and process. We also create events and opportunities to amplify the work of transfarmation. Education is a cornerstone of Transfarmation Austria. The initiative offers workshops, training sessions, and resources for farmers to learn about sustainable practices. Education is a cornerstone of Transfarmation Austria. The initiative offers workshops, training sessions, and resources not only to farmers but to students and the general public who are interested in understanding food systems and transfarmation.
While Transfarmation is making significant strides, challenges remain. Climate change continues to pose a threat to agricultural systems worldwide. Farmers must adapt to changing weather patterns, which can impact crop yields and soil health. Additionally, the transition to sustainable practices can be daunting for some farmers. Financial constraints and lack of access to resources can hinder their ability to adopt new methods.
Transfarmation Austria is actively working to address these challenges by providing support and resources to understanding them and fostering opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing knowledge. If you are working on a project related to transfarmation or aspects of transfarmation (such as conversion processes, the establishment of sanctuaries, or financial restructuring) contact us so that we can explore opportunities for collaboration.

Transfarmation is a movement that is leading the way when it comes to offering and understanding alternative models to our dominant food systems. Change will only happen when there are tangible opportunities to transform and we are proud to be a part of understanding what those are.
